Adults need city parks too. I was out earlier this week and had myself all bundled up and ready to go for a nice relaxing yet brisk walk. It was then that I realized I actually had to travel quite a bit for simple yet also missing luxury.
I started thinking about it and realized that there were several parks available for children. I’m not saying that children have too many parks, I’m simply saying that we could use a few more adult parks. We have our bike paths and walking trails. We have the lake walk, we even have the pier. The thing is that these options aren’t always convenient or wanted.
It would be great to have a park right in the middle of the city. I’m not asking for anything fancy, just some trees and maybe a few park benches. I know the children parks have both trees and benches. Unfortunately I also know that they also have overly excited screaming children.
It’s not that I don’t like children, I actually think that they’re great and often very cute. It’s just when I imagine the adult park that I long for I also imagine a place of solitude and tranquility. A small sanctuary of sorts, you get the picture.
Considering that many cities have a higher percentage of childless couples than they do families with children, it only makes me think that I can’t possibly be alone in my desire for my very own grown up park. I’m certain that others have thought this before me. I only wonder why it hasn’t become a popular idea and therefore the norm in any city across the nation.
