This may be slightly off topic but I wanted to take a few moments to honor a great man and writer who has laid down his pin for the last time. Tom Wicker has passed away today in his home, he was 85 years old. He brought challenge, opinion and downright no holds barred journalism into public light.
He laid the ground work that opened doors to writers everywhere. He covered news events that received national attention. Tom wicker brought a new voice to the New York Times as a columnist. Through his constant persistence in journalism and his relentless drive to uncover any story no matter what dark secret lies beneath he gave each writer the vision to follow their story and demand a high standard of journalism that couldn’t crumble.
It was Tom Wicker that covered the John F Kennedy assassination and who then went on to break down the walls of deception that shadowed the Watergate scandal. This man lived a life of breaking top stories. I can only hope that he is remembered for his strength and dedication to his craft. It’s my wish that we all take a moment to remember him and struggle to break just one story open that would demand even a percentage of the courage that this man brought in to each word that he scribed.
Tom Wicker will always be remembered as one of the great journalist that opened the steel doors of secrets. He will be remembered as a man who demanded answers. He will be remembered as a journalist that gave a voice to his audience. He will be remembered.
