Jamie Oliver’s videos should be played in every school. I say this because my niece who absolutely loves chicken nuggets came home from school a couple weeks ago commenting on how disgusting chicken nuggets were and how she wasn’t ever going to eat them again. I thought this was great, yet, also a little strange.
My curiosity got the best of me and I finally inquired, thinking back I kind of wish I hadn’t. This is because she jumped on her computer, pulled up YouTube and played me one of the most disgusting videos I’ve ever seen. I literally get slightly nauseas every time I think about it. So what did she show me? She showed me a video of James Oliver making chicken nuggets.
The video is actually an experiment with elementary aged children to see if they would eat the nuggets once they saw how they were made. In his video, the children still ate the chicken nuggets, however the older kids that my niece goes to school with had a completely different reaction. Some of them were unaffected yet many of them like her have yet to eat a chicken nugget.
I’m not sure how long this will last, I’m hoping it will last forever. It’s a graphic video that I’ll one day be able to get out of my mind. My niece still cringes with the thought of chicken nuggets and I know that when she cringes she’s visualizing that video. I hate, knowing that I’m disturbed by what I saw, that she too is disturbed by it, yet at the same time I’m thrilled if she chooses other forms of chicken.
